Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS):

  • Paper Import Monitoring System is introduced by The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) by modifying the import policy of major paper products from ‘Free’ to “Free subject to compulsory registration under PIMS.” But the facility of registering online will be working from 15th July 2022. The PIMS is introduced to get specific details of the imported paper and paper products.
    The system would then combine all the detailed information on the imported products which will help in the analysis of the trade data and making of the policy formulation. To enable monitoring and targeted decision making we would need this real – time access to information.
    Following is some of the features of PIMS
    PIMS has the option to view previous online registrations. Other than that, all the incomplete applications that are not submitted for the registrations to the DGFT website are also visible on the PIMS for people to see and then take action on them accordingly.
    If there are any kind of changes in the applicant’s details like Phone number or Email id then the changes have to be updated and uploaded on the DGFT IEC database via the online IEC modification system.
    Importers who do not register their correct information and data on all the notified items under the action before hand or if importers are found to give incorrect information and data in the online PIMS module then they will be penalized with punitive action including actions which comes under FTDR Act of 1992 (Foreign Trade Development and Regulation).
    Now the PIMS is available online all the time. But for all the importers and for the good of the trade it is always better that all these registrations are done before hand to make sure that there are no unwanted difficulties in the business activity of the company.
    How to apply for PIMS
    According to PIMS, all of the importer will need to have an automatic registration number, importers would get that PIMS registration number via an online method and payment of Rs. 500/- only.
    Anyone interested in getting the PIMS registration number then they should know that they can only apply for the registration not early than the 75th day and not late than the 5th day of the expected date of arrival of the import consignment.
